Samnaksung Temple
Samnaksung temple is a very small but beautiful temple. Having four monks, plus its abbot, Prakpakorn, or to his friends Chung. It is situated not far from the Narathiwat road, which is not too far from the Thailand/Malaysia border crossing point. Hidden away down a small lane that meanders through a small village and then to the edge of the forest. Keep going and when the end of the road appears, the temple is on your left
Such a peaceful location with no traffic. Just birds and other wildlife sounds and the occasional visitors on their motorcycles or cars. A perfect location for those who like peace and quiet and also if you want to learn about meditation and its values to ones inner self.
It started off as a gift of land from another monk to Prakpakorn (Chung) in 2007 and with the help and hard work of the local Buddhist peoples; a beautiful temple was born. “Temple in the Forest”. And work still continues, to extend some parts of it.
When one sits or walks around in its tranquil grounds, seeing chickens running around, cows grazing, the cats and dogs shading under the trees from the hot sun, just brings a sense of relaxation and takes all the day’s stresses away from you.
The temple offers many services and are all free of charge to anyone. This includes foreign travellers also. One of these services, is to offer foreign travellers passing through the town accommodation free of charge. Though basic, the cabins are very clean and are the same as what the monks live in. There is a communal toilet and shower block, also kept to a hygienic standard. It is an ideal place to rest if one is on a low budget, such as backpackers.. Food is also available free of charge. and is served and eaten with the other monks at 7am. This is brought in by the local people to the temple, as monks do not cook. There are many restaurants around and a motorcycle to use. You may have one of the monks ask you to take him to the shops, which is looked upon by the local people as an honour, as monks are not allowed to drive vehicles or ride bicycles.
We wish that anyone who stays with us, will enjoy their stay, tell their friends and family and please visit us on Facebook and please make a review on the travel websites, Trip Advisor, Lonely Planet etc.
For those foreign travellers worried about the language barrier, there are 2 English teachers from England Sam and Dougy available on call to assist you if you have any problems. Please ask the abbot for their numbers.. Alternatively, you can email them direct for anything in advance.
Please be informed, that alcohol is not permitted within the grounds of the temple.
We look forward to meeting you all.
